Gathering reflections is like trying to pick up our grandchildren’s lego. I think we have them all packed away, and then in the middle of the night, I tread on one that’s always been there but that I’ve missed. Ouch.
Last week, I had attention, capacity, and the notion of “performance” all packed away to work on in the coming year. As I’ve gone through this week, I had the sense of another one trying to find its way in, and when it did, it felt painfully obvious and irritated at having been left out.
Connection
No single issue brought the insight; it was a diverse mixture. Seeing a communication to senior leaders “inviting” them to a leadership day, listening to increasingly flustered politicians commenting on increasing levels of strike action by frustrated front-line workers, and the idea of proposed legislation to stop action, as though somehow trust and respect can be mandated.
