
There is something fascinating about Lichens. Long ignored, we are now beginning to understand their complexity and importance. Long assumed to be a simple symbiosis between fungi and algae, we are now learning that they are complex ecosystems rather than dual partnerships.
They can include multiple bacterial and fungal species, each contributing to the lichen’s overall function and health. This complexity allows lichens to adapt to a wide range of environmental conditions and may explain their resilience in diverse habitats.
