The Nature of Leadership

This is a remarkable time when it comes to authority, as we see played out a relationship between a Consitutional Monarchy, a government not subject to a written constitution, a fractious relationship between the realms of the United Kingdom, and an international reaction to the death of someone who, as President Macron put it, is not so much "our" Queen, as "the" Queen.

Proper consideration of the dynamics of this will have to wait a while, out of respect and a need for the waves of emotion to settle and yield a clearer picture. What is does throw into sharp relief already though is the power of commitment to deeply help values to command respect, authority and affection which are cornestones of leadership.

The paradox all of this, coming as it does before a new Prime Minister has had time to find her way to her office, put there by a a few handfuls of people who pay a few pounds a year to override the preferences of the p…
