As part of my morning routine, I keep a rough track of how much time I have spent on media, social and mainstream the previous day. Over time, particularly since we exited lockdown, I have brought it down and have come off Twitter, Facebook, and recently LinkedIn altogether. I have restricted email to three times a day and tuned my spam filters to be pretty effective. That leaves me with a quick glance at the BBC summary of the papers, proper time with the Economist, and more time with Substack and Medium. In total, about ninety minutes a day.
I’ve been reflecting on that journey.
