This is an 1881 map of the village where I live. The topography is recognisable, but the landscape has changed. There are new buildings, fields have been redrawn, and there were orchards surrounding our house. If I used this map to navigate, I would end up stranded on land I think I know and would probably find myself trespassing on land belonging now to those I do not know.
It feels like a valid metaphor for where we are with our work and politics.
