In my post yesterday, I referenced Leonard Cohen’s line, “There is a crack in everything; it’s where the light gets in.” This line stays with me and turns up often, like a good friend, bringing my attention to something.
For the last little while, I have been finding my way around ChatGPT4, not in search of time-saving efficiency (though it is very good at that, I find) but rather to build a relationship with it.
AI is a process, albeit a very complicated one, but a process nonetheless. It may have hallucinations, but it is not random and is clearly going to have a huge impact in those areas where we humans have come to rely on processes to complete tasks in a reliable, repetitive and efficient manner without having to be burdened by curiosity or imagination.
It does not, however, do complex. That’s our job. AI can join dots looking backwards, but cannot lay a breadcrumb trail to follow going forwards. If we find the answers AI gives us complex, it is…
