When we shine a bright enough light on something, we can often see through it, to below the surface and get a glimpse of its substance. That is what these last few weeks have felt like here in the U.K.

Nothing has fallen apart - but we have seen below the surface to the reality of our politics, and what we have seen in our politics is a mirror of what we see amongst many organisations. The story on the surface, comprising a combination of intentional artifice for the outside world, and self delusion for the inside one is a long way from the one that is revealed under pressure.

The real story for politics and business is that they have both mortgaged themselves to a story based on growth to secure the debt thay have used to reward themselves in the present. Along the way, every part of those stories have been monetised, such that there is very little that can hold wonder or personal values for their own sake.
